The Big Rat. The Unions have a big inflatable rat that they put in front of business that do things they don't like- like using non-union labor. This one was in front of a fancy apartment building on Central Park West and 81st Street- I think the doormen were on strike.
The rock club CBGB's. These days it's more of a tourist attraction than an "important" rock club, but I still love it. The interior is an astonishing historical artifact, a punk palimpsest. In October 2006, it's scheduled to close after more than 30 years.

Walk in back and you pass the dressing rooms. You can look right in, there are no doors. It seems in keeping with the punk ideal, breaking down the barriers between audience and performers.
