Ferrari Unveils F430 Scuderia Spider 16M with 510HP V8 and iPod Touch - 26 High-Res PhotosToday Ferrari proved true all those rumors concerning the development of a drop-top version of the hardcore F430 Scuderia with the presentation of the limited series Scuderia Spider 16M at the World Finals in Mugello in celebration of its recent victory in the F1 Constructor's World Championship 2008, which takes the firms overall manufacture titles to 16 - hence the name Scuderia Spider 16M.
If you're (rightfully) questioning the purpose of a track-ready F430 in convertible form, the only smartass answer could think of is for the same reason that the Italian firm decided to equip the Scuderia Spider 16M with a removable Ferrari iPod Touch 16 GB. In other words, it doesn't make much sense. Nevertheless, we have no doubt whatsoever that all 499 examples of the vehicle will be sold faster than it takes an F1 to go from naught to 60.
Talking about speed, Ferrari claims that the limited production Scuderia Spider 16M is faster around the Fiorano circuit than any other Prancing Horse open-top road car built to date. Just like the F430 Scuderia Coupe, the Spider features a tweaked version of the firm's 4.3-liter V8 which now produces 510HP while Ferrari's extensive diet has resulted to a weight saving of 80 kg or 176 lbs for a total of 1340 Kg or 2,954 lbs (versus the F430 Scuderia Coupe's 2,756 lbs).
The result is a power-to-weight ratio of 2.6 kg/hp with a 0-100 km/h (62mph) acceleration in just 3.7 seconds and a maximum top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).
From a styling point of view the Scuderia Spider 16M is available in a choice of two new signature colour schemes: the standard version is black with grey trim and a tricolor livery which is available as part of Ferrari's "Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme".
The track-ready / capable Spider also sports special plaques on its rear grille and above the air vents at the centre of the dashboard. Other exclusive features include a roll-bar with carbon-fibre outer shell and a specific new generation audio system that can be combined with the removable customized Ferrari iPod Touch 16 GB with central dock just in front of the dashboard.
